Jon Snow: A Last Big Story
A documentary following broadcasting and journalistic icon Jon Snow, as he navigates life following a dementia diagnosis, will air on Channel 4 on Saturday (20 June) at 8pm. It aligns with our approach to dementia care, so we’ll be watching.
Jon Snow: A Last Big Story, created in conjunction with Alzheimer’s Society, will feature the former Channel 4 News host as he talks openly about life and finding purpose after his 2023 diagnosis with Alzheimer’s.
Shirley Hall is our Director of Care & Wellbeing. She commented: “The courage and determination of Jon Snow and his wife Dr Precious Lunga to talk publicly and to tackle one last big scoop resonates with the work we do and our belief that a diagnosis doesn’t define a person. The documentary is testament to what individuals living with a diagnosis of dementia can achieve with the support, belief and advocacy of their loved ones.
“In our Homes we offer personalised care which promotes individuals’ rights, with empathy and understanding, and we support residents to continue with their skills, interests and hobbies.
“We also run Day Care services, which welcomes people living with early-stage dementia to come to our Homes and enjoy fun, meaningful activities, a hot meal and friendship, while also providing the vital respite for family carers.”
Shirley concluded: “We are pleased that Jon Snow and his wife, working with Channel 4, had the courage to bring his diagnosis into the public eye, to make people more aware of the condition and to remind us all that it is possible to live well with dementia.”
