Residents at Royal Star & Garter share a laugh

A Solihull care home will welcome veterans, their family and friends through its doors when it hosts open days in May.

Royal Star & Garter in Monkspath Hall Road will showcase the outstanding person-centred care it delivers during the open days, on 17 and 18 May. Those wishing to attend are asked to register in advance.

The Home provides loving, compassionate care to veterans and their partners living with disability or dementia. It welcomes anyone who has served in the UK Armed Forces, including Reservists and those who completed National Service.

The open days are for veterans or partners of veterans, as well as an accompanying relative or friend, and take place between 11am-1pm on Friday 17 May, and 2-4pm on Saturday 18 May.

Those attending will be given a glimpse of everyday life at Royal Star & Garter. They will have the chance to chat to staff, carers and members of the Wellbeing Team, over a cuppa and a slice of cake.

They will also have a tour of the Home, which will take in nursing and dementia care areas, in-house physiotherapy room and hair salon, garden, activities room and lounges.

A range of activities, including music, physiotherapy and pampering sessions will also be taking place, which visitors are welcome to join or just watch.

Its exceptional dementia care was also recognised with a prestigious national award from the Chief Nurse for Adult Social Care.

‘Have some worries eased’

Shirley Hall, Director of Care & Wellbeing at Royal Star & Garter, said: “We understand that choosing a care home for yourself or someone you love is a difficult decision and can be daunting. I hope those attending the open days will have some worries eased when they see the excellent care we provide.”

Those attending can also get more information on short-term stays, and new services including Day Care, Lunch Club and our free Telephone Friendship Service.
