Pupils at a primary school have taken part in a sponsored run and raised nearly £700 for The Royal Star & Garter Homes.

Year Three and Four children from High Wycombe CofE School ran laps around The Rye on June 27, with parents cheering and supporting them.

Fifty pupils, aged between seven and nine, helped raise the figure, which will go towards a minibus appeal at the Charity’s Home in High Wycombe.

The Royal Star & Garter Homes provides award-winning care for ex-Servicemen and women and their partners living with disability or dementia.

Year Three teacher Nicola Jones said the Loakes Road school is keen to build a relationship with the High Wycombe Home: “The children loved the sponsored run. They were enthusiastic to raise money for the Home and we constantly encouraged their families and friends in order to increase the donation total. We are hoping to visit the Home in the new school year and look forward to organising more events and creating stronger links

in the future.”

The Charity is raising £40,000 for a small minibus for the High Wycombe Home which will be used to take residents on activities, such as pub lunches, theatre and museum visits and sporting events. It will also be used to help residents attend medical appointments. In total, the Home will provide more than 50 activities each week, including music, crafts, aerobics, cookery and puzzles. Every resident also has access to the in-house physiotherapy.

High Wycombe Home Manager Chelle Daly, said: “The residents and I want to thank every pupil at High Wycombe Primary who raised money, along with all those who sponsored them. Outings play an important role in the quality of care we provide, so we’re chuffed to bits with this donation.”

The Charity welcomed its first residents to the High Wycombe Home in April, and also has Homes in Solihull and Surbiton.
