8th July 2017 – The local community was out in force on Saturday when The Royal Star & Garter Homes in Solihull opened its doors and welcomed one and all to its annual Summer Fete. The event was officially opened by the Charity’s Director of Fundraising & Marketing, Gordon Craig, who gave a short speech before wishing everybody a fun-filled afternoon.

The sun was shining and everyone was in great spirits as the public enjoyed the stalls and attractions. Residents and visitors mingled over tea and delicious homemade cake. In the afternoon, the Military Wives Choir Stafford put on a performance which went down brilliantly.

The annual event is traditionally a fun day out for all the family and this year was no exception. Attractions included performances by local musicians and dancers, antique valuations by Charles Hanson Auctioneers, a display of First World War items from The Birmingham Pals, food stalls, a display of Second World War military vehicles, a tombola, and of course the ever popular Pimms stall.

Local resident Graham remarked, “The atmosphere is brilliant. Everyone is really enjoying themselves and getting into the spirit of the Fete. Seeing the residents having a good time and mingling with everyone brings home what the Fete is all about – supporting our veterans.”

All money raised will go towards providing exceptional nursing, therapeutic and dementia care for the veterans who live in the Solihull Home.
