What we do

Our care

We provide care for veterans and their partners, who live with disability or dementia, in our four Homes and we have launched new services reaching out into the community, including Day Care, Lunch Clubs and a Telephone Friendship Service.

Our highly skilled, motivated staff meet the nursing, disability and dementia care needs of our residents in an appropriate, personalised and compassionate way.

We are investing in training non-medical prescribers to prescribe medication from a set formulary. This rapid on-site response means residents obtain medication within hours, and avoid the risk of their health further deteriorating.

We constantly evolve our services and innovate in our care to meet the present and future needs of our Armed Forces, just as we have for more than 100 years.

The care provided to people by Royal Star & Garter in High Wycombe was outstanding… We found this to be a well-run and supportive service that focused on people’s needs. Other services can look to it as an example of the high standards of care people should expect.

Our future

We are developing our services to provide care for younger veterans, who will need high levels of specialist care for the duration of their lives. We will create a community and Home designed to meet their needs, while supporting them to live as independently as possible.

Whichever way we offer our care, friendship, respect and compassion are always at the heart of what we do.

By 2028, we estimate that around 65,000 veterans will have developed dementia.

Our knowledge

The charity has over 100 years’ experience in providing pioneering nursing and therapeutic care to veterans living with disabilities and dementia. We are committed to sharing our knowledge, skills and experience with other organisations to promote better care for veterans and all older people. We partner with health care, military and academic organisations to share and develop our knowledge for the benefit of our communities.

Sharing our experience

We are passionate about innovation in our care to improve the lives of veterans and we are ideally placed to provide training. The Homes offer nursing and military nursing student training and placements to Student Nursing Associate as part of an NHS pilot scheme.

2024
- We are delighted to have been awarded the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award 2024 for our support of the Armed Forces community.

- Rida Diab, Head Chef at our Surbiton Home, won Catering Manager of the Year at the NACC Awards 2021.
- We were awarded for the third year running the 'Top 20 Rated Care Home Group' by carehome.co.uk in 2021.
- Our Surbiton Home was recognised as a top 20 care home in London in the Carehome.co.uk awards.
