Fundraising Solihull Home

My fundraising story: Kevin Rudge

Kevin Rudge is an amazing fundraiser who supports The Royal Star & Garter Homes. Last year, Kevin took part in the Centenary Challenge to raise funds for the Charity and in this blog he explains more about what he did and what drives him.

The reason I wanted to fundraise for The Royal Star & Garter Homes was that my father spent the last year of his life at the Solihull Home in 2013, where he received the most fantastic care. Not only was my father well looked after but the staff were also amazing to us all as a family, they were extremely supportive and understanding.

My mother-in-law is currently living at The Royal Star & Garter Homes and again is receiving the best care anyone could ever imagine. The residents are treated with such respect, love and dignity by these very dedicated people.

I wanted to give something back to this wonderful Home and as it was the Charity’s Centenary year I decided to donate 100 hours of my time and raised £220.

I did some jobs for my father-in-law for example, cleaning his windows and tidying up in his garden. I did some odd jobs for my mother who was recovering from a bad fall and the rest came from donations, one of which was from my cousin in California who made a £50 donation, because they had visited the home in 2013 when my father was there and were very impressed with the Home.

I am now helping the Charity in a different way by chairing the monthly planning meeting for the Solihull Home Summer Fete and will be looking to get some exciting raffle prizes for the event. Last year I managed to source £800 worth of prizes from some very generous local businesses and this year I would like to beat that total.

I’ll keep you posted with my progress.
