How an old car will be helping our veterans
All good things come to an end. For long-time supporter, Joyce Buck, it was her car of 31 years. After failing her 10 miles into a 50-mile journey, she decided that enough was enough and that the car had come to the end of its natural life. What to do with the old car though?
Joyce decided to donate her car to the ‘Give a Car’ scheme. Launched in January 2010, the ‘Give a Car’ scheme has worked with more than 1,000 charities and donated more than £1 million to charities across the country.
Joyce explained why she chose to use the ‘Give a Car’ scheme and why she chose to support The Royal Star & Garter Homes:
“As the car had been a good friend over the years I wondered if it would still have some value. I contacted the ‘Give a Car’ scheme, which I had read about previously, and they were only too happy to take the car from me. I asked for any money raised to go to The Royal Star & Garter Homes.
I chose The Royal Star & Garter Homes because it is one of several charities that I have donated to over the years. Whenever I’ve had a spare pound, I’ve always looked to make a donation and I’ve known about the Charity since the 1950s, when I used to work in Richmond.”
We are very grateful to Joyce for donating her car as it will help us to provide the specialist care our veterans need. If you have an old car or know someone who would be interested in this, please visit our ‘Give a Car’ page for more information.
