Disabled veterans at The Royal Star & Garter Home in Solihull attended the Solihull Parade to commemorate Remembrance Day and to pay tribute to the fallen on Sunday 13 November.

The Parade had been organised as a special event to mark the centenary of the Battle of the Somme. The residents, accompanied by staff, volunteers and Military Nurse Students, were honoured to attend as it is the first time a Remembrance parade has been held in Solihull since 1917.

The Solihull Home’s Activities Manager, Annette Stockham, attended the Parade with the residents and commented: “It was so moving to be part of the Solihull Parade. I was very proud to be part of this, to represent our residents and the Charity. The band played us in with ‘Old Comrades’. It was very emotional for our residents. One of the residents laid a poppy wreath.” 

The Home also held a Remembrance Service for the residents. After readings and prayers, residents laid poppy wreaths at an altar. This event was also attended by the Deputy Mayor of Solihull, Mrs Glenis Slater, and Military Nurse Students who are training at the Home.
