April 2014 – The Royal Star & Garter Homes is delighted to announce that a resident at its Solihull Home, Madge Andrews, will be 105 years old in April. 

Madge loves a party so the Home will be celebrating in style, with an Afternoon Tea Party in her honour. The guest of honour will be joined by Solihull’s Mayor, friends, family and fellow residents at the celebration in the dining room at the Home, which will be decorated in Madge’s favourite colours.

Solihull’s Mayor, Councillor Joe Tildesley, met Madge at The Royal Star & Garter Home Summer Fete last year and said he would love to come along. Also attending will be Mike Barter, the Charity’s Chief Executive.

Born in Strood, Kent, Madge became an apprentice to a Royal dressmaker, delivering clothes to Windsor by donkey and cart. Madge was married in 1934 and her husband served in the Army. Not afraid of hard work, Madge had several jobs, including working in a baby powder factory but she still found the energy to play tennis and hockey. Madge has three children: two sons and a daughter who, sadly, she lost to cancer at the age of 50. She also enjoys spending time with her seven grandchildren.

Still active at 105, Madge loves crosswords, quizzes, movement to music, volleyball, crafts and many of the fun activities happening in the Home. She loves to join in and won’t stop until the activity is over. Madge is great fun to be around and has a great sense of humour.
