Gwyneth Williams

20 November 1924 - 26 December 2022

In loving memory of Gwyneth

Resident of Royal Star & Garter

Gwyneth Williams was in the WRNS during WWII. She was based in the Fleet Mail Office in Plymouth, and later in Evanton in Scotland. She had vivid memories of her experiences from that time.

Her early life was in Wales. Gwyneth was born in North Wales on the 20th November 1924 and her first language was Welsh.

Gwyneth also worked in the Civil Service before and after the war, until her marriage. Gwyneth met her future husband while she was in Plymouth. He was in the Royal Navy and served on HMS Inconstant. They were married in 1949 and she was widowed suddenly in 1976.

Having lived independently until she was 95 Gwyneth’s health began to deteriorate during lockdown which prompted her move to Royal Star and Garter at Surbiton. Covid regulations made the transition very difficult and we are so grateful for the loving care she received from all the staff at RSG, despite Gwyneth’s forceful reluctance to understand or accept that she needed help. We are extremely grateful to the whole team.

Gwyneth touched many lives during her 98 years. As well as two daughters she had two grandchildren and three great grandsons. She enjoyed looking at her photo books with fond memories of the many places and events she had been to with family and many friends during her long life.
