Fundraising Legacy

What will you leave behind?

Most of us put off writing a Will. It can feel like something to think about ‘later’,  or only when we’re much older. But having a Will is one of the most important steps you can take to ensure your loved ones – and the causes closest to your heart – are looked after in the future.

Without a Will, the law decides who inherits your estate, and that may not reflect your wishes. A valid Will gives you peace of mind, knowing your intentions will be respected, while sparing your family and friends unnecessary stress at a difficult time.

What if I don’t have a large estate?

A common misconception is that Wills are only for people with significant wealth. In reality, what matters most is ensuring your wishes are clear, however modest or unique they may be.

Over the years, Royal Star & Garter has been remembered in many thoughtful ways, from cherished medals and military memorabilia to a much-loved Honda Civic! These gifts, large or small, make a lasting difference to the veterans and partners that we care for.

Free Wills Month – October

This October, as part of Free Wills Month, we’re offering friends and supporters the opportunity to write or update their Will at no cost. Whether you’re starting from scratch or making changes to an existing document, our complimentary Will-writing service makes it simple and accessible.

There’s no catch. Once you’ve provided for your loved ones, we simply hope you might also consider leaving a gift to Royal Star & Garter, helping us continue our vital work supporting veterans and their families in our Homes and through our community services.

Real stories from our supporters

Last Free Wills Month, 44 supporters registered through the National Free Wills Network, including Joan, who is in her 80s.

Joan shared:
“I’ve never had a Will before, so I wanted to make sure I had one in place. I wrote my Will with a solicitor over the phone – sometimes I have difficulty in getting to places, so it made me feel more comfortable being in my own home.”

Our colleague Louiza recently updated her Will online with Farewill:
“I got divorced in 2019 and hadn’t updated my Will since then. As a working mum, finding the time to visit a solicitor felt impossible, so I kept putting it off. With Farewill, the whole process took about 20 minutes. My checked Will was returned within 24 hours (though it can take up to five days). I printed it at home, had it witnessed, and it was done. It was so easy – I wish I’d done it sooner!”
