What is Free Wills Month?
You may have seen mentions of Free Wills Month popping up in the news, online, or even on TV. Keep reading to find out what it’s all about and how it can help you get your affairs in order.
Free Wills Month is a twice-yearly event in the UK, taking place in March and October, where people aged 55 and over can have a simple Will written or updated for free. The initiative is supported by various charities who cover the solicitor’s fees. While there’s no obligation to leave a gift to charity in your Will, it’s an opportunity to consider doing so, as many charities rely on such gifts to continue their vital work. Learn about the impact of Gifts in Wills here.
During Free Wills Month, participating solicitors offer their services free of charge to allow members of the public to write a simple Wills (or simple Mirror Wills). This event helps raise awareness about the importance of having an up to date Will, and makes it accessible to those who might not otherwise be able to afford it.
Free Wills Month is a valuable opportunity to ensure your wishes are respected and your loved ones are protected after you’re gone. It also provides a chance to support charities that are important to you.
