Royal Star & Garter and the UK outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19)
While the country now moves into a new period of national lockdown, our vital care for veterans and their partners continues. We remain as committed as ever to ensuring that the risk of any infection within our Homes is minimised.
Infection prevention and control remains our top priority. Our care teams are absolutely committed to meeting, or exceeding, all national guidance and have shown extraordinary courage and skill in their work. We couldn’t be more proud of them. Social distancing within the Homes and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) are strictly in place. Our staff are enrolled in a regular testing programme which they are accessing every week.
During the summer we were able to support external visiting for residents to meet with their families. Once the new tier regulations came into place, we were forced to temporarily stop outdoor family visits at both our Surbiton and Solihull Homes when they moved into tier 2.
With the introduction of the new national lockdown on Thursday 4 November, we received updated guidance for visiting in care homes. This supports that we will be able to resume family visits by making use of our new COVID-secure meeting rooms.
We remain committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our residents and maintaining a regular connection with their families is critical to this. We support the call for key worker status for family members along with access to the necessary testing to support this.
We would like to thank our partners, funders, suppliers and members of the local communities around each of our Homes who have supported us throughout the pandemic. We are truly grateful to you all.
Our priority is protecting the residents we care for.
We are extremely grateful for your support and understanding.
