Royal Star & Garter and the UK outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19)
As the country now makes plans to move cautiously out of lockdown restrictions following the government’s four step road map, our vital care for veterans and their partners continues. We remain as committed as ever to ensuring that the risk of any infection within our Homes is minimised.
We are meeting, or exceeding, all national guidance and our staff have shown extraordinary courage and skill in their work. We are committed to enabling safe visiting in our Homes where possible.
From 8 March, our Home in High Wycombe is now supporting indoor visiting with one named (nominated) individual per resident. This is in addition to visits continuing in our purpose built Covid-secure meeting room which has been in operation since the end of 2020.
Our Home in Surbiton currently remains under tighter restrictions, but visiting in their two Covid-secure rooms continues. Visiting inside the Home will begin from Thursday 25 March.
Our Home in Solihull is also under additional restrictions. Visiting inside the Home and in our two Covid-secure rooms is currently due to resume from Wednesday 7 April.
All visiting is in line with national guidance and family members are supported fully in the use of lateral flow tests and appropriate PPE.
We remain committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our residents. To this end we have ensured that all residents have received their first dose of a vaccine and to date 85% of our frontline staff have received theirs. Even with these high vaccination rates, we remain committed to the fundamentals of infection control principles and are consistently reinforcing the importance of hand hygiene, correct use of PPE and social distancing.
We would like to thank our partners, funders, suppliers and members of the local communities around each of our Homes who have supported us throughout the pandemic. We are truly grateful to you all.
Update: 16 March 2021
