This Dementia Action Week we’re delighted to offer supporters the opportunity to write or update their Will for free. All gifts, large or small, make a huge difference to veterans like Cynthia. Read their stories below:

Cynthia’s Story

Cynthia made history in 1996, by becoming the first female Air Commodore in the RAF’s history having joined in 1964 when she was just 19 and serving for more than 35 years.

She has been living with dementia in one of our Homes since 2023. Our care Homes were recommended to her partner Brendan by friends. He said: “When I came to chat to staff, it was patently obvious that it would be a great place for Cynthia to be.”

Connie’s Story

Connie joined the Women’s Royal Naval Service when she was just 17, and served as an Officer’s Steward on HMS Brontosaurus, in Scotland, during WWII.

We support residents to live life to the full, and in 2022 our staff were delighted to help Connie return to the Netherlands to mark the country’s freedom from Nazi rule. While there she visited the graves of the war dead, before taking part in the Liberation Day parade.

Michael’s Story

Michael joined the Army in 1951, and served for 31 years, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was serving in the Royal Army Pay Corps (RAPC), stationed on Christmas Island in 1959, shortly after hydrogen bomb tests had taken place on the South Pacific Island.

Michael was diagnosed with dementia and came to live with us in 2022. He is a keen artist and enjoys dementia friendly activities such as drawing and painting. Many of his pieces are regularly displayed in our High Wycombe Home.
