Dementia Care

We are proud of our inspirational dementia care philosophy which incorporates the latest research and guidance available. Our specialist dementia care teams are committed to providing a full and meaningful life for people living with dementia. We understand that people and feelings matter much more than structures and procedures, and our dedicated staff undertake specialist ‘person-centred’ dementia care training to focus on this central purpose.

Each of our Homes has a specialist dementia care area, providing a stimulating and homely environment for residents living with dementia. We have worked with experts in the field of dementia care to specifically design our buildings’ interiors and external gardens to promote choice, safety and peace of mind.

The Solihull Home won two awards at the 6th National Dementia Care Awards in Birmingham in November 2015: Best Dementia Team Award and Best Resident/Relative Contribution Award, awarded to Rachel Christophers whose husband, Theo, an Army veteran, lives with dementia at the Home.

Promoting Health & Maintaining Well-being

Our staff have a caring and positive approach, welcoming the involvement of family and friends to help us understand each person, and to assist in planning the appropriate care and developing relationships. We help people with dementia to maintain a sense of well-being and purpose by using a therapeutic approach.

We work closely with Dementia Care Matters in the pursuit of providing excellent quality dementia care services. Our staff undertake a continual process of  ‘person-centred’ care training to develop the necessary skills and experience to ensure a truly special service. We place particular emphasis on staff involvement as we recognise the need for more personal attention, reassurance and support.

Dining

We provide an adaptable approach to mealtimes as we understand the need for flexibility and choice. The menu is varied and nutritious, and snacks and drinks are available 24- hours a day.

A Warm Homely Environment

Our specialist dementia care is designed to help people to feel comfortable, relaxed and independent. All rooms have the technology to support independence and choice. A discreet nurse call system and sophisticated monitoring and lighting ensure privacy and safety, particularly at night. Everyone can also enjoy a dedicated and safe sensory garden.

Promoting & Maintaining Personal Interests

We know that participation in leisure activities is significant in maintaining well-being. We aim to maintain the unique and valuable aspects of a person’s life, prompting their memories and enabling their remaining abilities through activities and reminiscence.

For example, there are a variety of daily activities that a person may choose to participate in which allows long forgotten skills to be rediscovered and new ones to be developed. This helps to build self-esteem, so that each person feels valued and lives with purpose and meaning.
